The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) supports research projects designed to foster the development and use of lasers and other related technologies in medical and surgical applications. While the best research projects will be given priority for funding, a concerted effort will be made to award a balance of basic science and clinical research. The Head and Neck Service of the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center offers a one year clinical or a two-and-one-half-year clinical and research senior fellowship in head and neck oncologic surgery. The American Head and Neck Society-sponsored Advanced Training Council gives approval for the fellowship.

he American Head and Neck Society sponsors several research grants both as an individual society and in conjunction with the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. The grants are reviewed through the Academy CORE (combined otolaryngologic research evaluation) process.

The Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF) and the Association for Surgical Education (ASE) recognize the importance of fostering the development of surgeon scientists that yield improvements in patient care in surgery. The ASE/PSF Combined Research Grant is intended to fund a research project that will advance the scientific knowledge and aim to develop and validate new methods of surgical care. Research projects that focus on surgical education and training in the area of plastic surgery are encouraged.

The Research Committee of the Arthroscopy Association of North America solicits and reviews applications for research grants in the fall. These grants are for clinical or basic science research in the field of arthroscopic surgery or disorders amenable to arthroscopic treatment. The Research Grant amounts vary depending on need and quality of work submitted. Grants up to $25,000 will be considered.

The PSF supports investigators from the beginning of their careers, during residency and as they advance to becoming experienced and well-established plastic surgeons. The purpose of the Research Fellowship Grant is to encourage research and academic career development in plastic surgery. This grant is for salary support only for a Resident or Fellow to obtain training and experience in research, under the guidance of an experienced mentor. The application must describe a structured research training plan, in addition to a research project.
