Research Fellowship Grant

One year, up to $50,000

Open to residents only, the NREF Research Fellowship Grant provides funding for neurosurgeons preparing for academic careers as clinician investigators. Applicants must be physicians who are currently accepted into an approved residency training program in neurological surgery within North America. One-hundred percent of the research grant applicant's research efforts must be devoted to this project.

American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons - International Traveling Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery

The Joint Pediatric Neurosurgery Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons has established an international traveling fellowship for neurosurgeons who at the time of their application are either training in a residency program outside the United States and Canada, or who have completed residency training outside the United States and Canada within the past five years.

European Society of Surgical Oncology - Training Fellowships

The Education & Training Committee of ESSO offers trainees in Surgical Oncology the possibility to visit a specialist centre outside of their own country, helping them to expand their experience and learn new techniques. 

The aim is to:

  • Allow young surgeons to visit a specialist centre outside of their own country,
  • Help them expand their experience and learn new techniques.

The Education and Training Committee grants two types of fellowships each year:

American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) - AMSSM Foundation Young Investigator Research Grant Awards

The purpose of these awards is to support research projects initiated by AMSSM members 5 years or less out of fellowship. Research grant proposals that investigate issues within the broad discipline of sports medicine, including clinical practice, injury prevention and rehabilitation, basic science, epidemiology and education are welcomed. The primary investigator of the grant must be an AMSSM member at the time of grant submission. A young investigator is defined as 5 years or less since completion of sports medicine fellowship training.

International Foundation for Research in Paraplegia - Postdoctoral Fellowship

In order to promote basic and clinical research related to spinal cord injury and neuroregeneration, IRP provides fellowships to young scientists who are either:

  • from Switzerland and who want to join an outstanding laboratory or clinic abroad, or
  • from abroad and who wish to work in Switzerland.

American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons (ASMS) - CRANIO Fellowship

PLEASE NOTE: Upon receipt of an ASMS Grant, we agree to recognize ASMS in any presentations and publications that are a direct result of use of these funds.

Award winners or a designated representative from your program is required to attend the annual meeting to receive the award. Confirmation of the individual who will receive the award must be provided to the ASMS at least two weeks in advance of the meeting. ny exceptions can only be made upon consideration by the Research Grants Committee and based upon circumstances beyond control of the recipient.
