Pulmonary Fellowship Program - Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

The Pulmonary Medicine Fellowship Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is a long-standing, independent two-year ACGME-accredited pulmonary medicine program designed to prepare physicians for careers in clinical pulmonary medicine including exposure to clinical research.

Pulmonary training at Memorial Sloan Kettering provides fellows with experience in managing patients with the full spectrum of lung disease. Our outpatient pulmonary clinics are open to all patients with pulmonary disease, not just those patients who are being treated for malignant or malignancy related pulmonary disease. The fellowship also offers unique and extensive exposure to the immunocompromised host.

Our total complement of fellows is five divided over two years. The attending staff is composed of 10 full-time attendings, including two fellowship-trained interventional pulmonary attendings. Procedure training in diagnostic bronchoscopy includes experience with EBUS/TBNA. The interventional pulmonary attendings give the trainees exposure to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.  There is extensive experience in the management of pleural disease  including thoracic ultrasound, chest tubes,  and tunneled pleural catheters.

The fellowship offers a full complement of didactic teaching sessions, multidisciplinary conferences, and opportunities to attend and participate in regional and national meetings. The service has close working relationships with thoracic surgery, pathology, and radiology in addition to medical oncology and radiation oncology, all of which promotes the multidisciplinary care of patients. In addition, Memorial Sloan Kettering has a new state-of-the-art ICU and an ACGME-accredited multidisciplinary Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program that pulmonary medicine fellows may wish to consider completing. The majority of our trainees do stay for three years to complete both the pulmonary and critical care training fellowships.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through ERAS by September 15 and require a personal statement and three letters of recommendation, including one from your internal medicine program director. The Pulmonary Medicine Fellowship Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program. Interviews take place September through October for the following July.
