Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology is committed to innovation in perioperative clinical care to maximize the quality and efficiency in anesthesia, pain and critical care, along with discovery and translation of novel therapies and healthcare delivery models. The department’s mission is to advance scientific research and education related to anesthesia, and to improve patient care through basic research in collaboration with leaders in the field.

Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry has produced many notable research achievements throughout the years, including those from a Noble Prize winning researcher. The long-standing department continues to hold a high standard in the delivery of a 21st century basic science curriculum to the students and in their promotion of outstanding research.

BMRI: Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute

BMRI research focuses on the brain and its diseases. Clinical trials and bench-to-bedside investigations enhance current treatments and aim to bridge the current gap in translational medicine.

Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery uses clinical trials to evaluate the effectiveness of new treatments for those affected by heart, lungs and esophageal disease. The research conducted in the department fall under the umbrella of three main sections: 1) Clinical Trials, 2) The Laragh Method, and 3) The Neuberger Berman Lung Cancer Research Center.

Cell and Developmental Biology

The Department of Cell and Developmental Biology has been in existence for over two centuries and is involved in cutting-edge research that reflects the disparate challenges that confront biomedical science today. The faculty present unique opportunities for postdoctoral fellows and graduate trainees to develop an integrated approach to questions in cell and developmental biology.

Dermatology

The Department of Dermatology research program increases our understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of the skin and, most importantly, develops basic and clinical information leading to the development of new and improved treatments for diseases of the skin.

Genetic Medicine

The Department of Genetic Medicine houses faculty with a diverse and internationally recognized expertise in both gene and stem cell therapies. The research program includes an extensive network of laboratories and collaborators that extend from upstate NY to the Middle East and parts of Europe.

Healthcare Policy & Research

The purpose of Weill Cornell’s Department of Healthcare Policy & Research’s main objective is to maximize the value of the delivery of healthcare through evidence-based research and evaluation. The faculty conducts research to improve the delivery of health care in the United States and across the globe through an extensive collaborative network. 

Microbiology and Immunology

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is comprised of a collegial community of microbiologists, virologists, immunologists, molecular biologists and chemical biologists, united by a focus on the hosts’ interaction with foreign genomes. The department provides a robust training environment for its postdoctoral fellows, graduate students  and medical students.

Neurological Surgery

The Department of Neurosurgery is comprised of faculty who are committed to bridging the distance from the lab bench to the patient bedside through its clinical trials, laboratory research, and nationally recognized specialized training courses, fellowships and residency programs. The department is home to the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center --  one of the country’s premier providers of minimally invasive surgery for the brain and spine in adults and children.

Neurology

In addition to providing compassionate and personalized patient care, the Weill Cornell’s Department of Neurology clinicians are committed to advancing the field of neurology through clinical and basic science research. is consistently ranked among the nation’s best providers of neurological care. Educational programs for fellows, residents, and medical students prepare trainees for productive and fulfilling careers in neurology.

Obstetrics and Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a long tradition of providing excellence to patients and families and meeting the unique and changing medical needs of women. In close partnership with the Clinical and Translational Science Center at Weill Cornell Medicine, the department faculty explores and makes discoveries through basic science and clinical trial activities.

Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology is home to the Margaret M. Dyson Vision Research Institute on of the top 20 NIH funded ophthalmic research institutes in the United States. In addition to offering state-of-the-art patient care, surgical interventions, and educational training to a broad range of students, the department maintains an active portfolio of clinical trials.

Orthopaedic Surgery

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is one of the highest ranking in the country. The department's mission is to provide outstanding patient care with compassion and concern for each patient and it is comprised of physician leaders responsible for many health-restoring medical breakthroughs and advances.

Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery

The Department of Otolaryngology offers the full spectrum of modern head and neck clinical care as well as clinical and basic science research inquiries from a nationally recognized expert faculty. 

Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is both a clinical and basic science department, providing an optimal perspective for true translational research that bridges patient care with biomedical research. The department engages in cutting-edge research with the goal of improving the care of patients. 

Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics is committed to offering quality care for patients and families, along with an unparalleled educational experience for students, residents and fellows. The department brings together basic science research and clinical investigations in medicine for the advancement of patient care, education and training.

Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology carries out research activities that cover broad areas including cancer pharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, toxicology and translational research. The research activities of the faculty are directed at understanding how drugs and chemicals modify biological systems.

Physiology and Biophysics

The Department of Physiology and Biophysics utilizes modern research techniques to examine how biological processes–from molecules to organisms–perform their functions.

Psychiatry

The Department Psychiatry is one of the largest and most prestigious in the country, with a long history of leadership in clinical care, training and research in psychiatric disorders. Current research studies test and develop new medications and forms of psychotherapy, as well as introduce new methods of imaging techniques to research science.

Radiology

The Department of Radiology has a long storied history as one of the premier clinical departments of radiology in the country. Additionally, the Department has a robust and successful research program that spans the entire continuum including fundamental research (basic and applied sciences), translational research, clinical research, and health services research.

Radiation Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology is comprised of gifted faculty and highly accomplished researchers who offer a unique combination of unparalleled resources to patient care, research and education. The department is dedicated to the development of new and better treatments for cancer and is engaged in a broad spectrum of research.

Rehabilitation Medicine

The Division of Rehabilitation Medicine has an active clinical research program established to advance the science of rehabilitation. Major research areas include the application of technology and other treatments to enhance stroke rehabilitation, and improve outcomes in management of back pain and related disorders. The division provides exceptional training and has an expansive clinical faculty practice.

Surgery

The Department of Surgery is one of the top surgery programs in the world with a clinical expertise enhanced by extensive and innovative research programs focused on the development of important new techniques and therapies that promote better outcomes and can improve the quality of life for patients following surgery.  

Thoracic Surgery

The Thoracic Surgery Department is dedicated to providing the highest quality and advanced care to patients with diseases of the lung, trachea, esophagus, chest wall and mediastinum.

Urology

The Department of Urology is internationally known for its contributions to scientific advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases. The department’s dynamic clinical and research environment and collaborative network of physician-scientists and clinicians promotes the department’s mission to provide unequalled urologic care.

Cardiology

The Maurice R. and Corinne P. Greenberg Division of Cardiology aims to be at the forefront of scientific and technological developments that are revolutionizing cardiology and translating those findings to the clinical bedside.

Center for Global Health

The Center for Global Health has developed long-standing international partnerships across the globe that provides wide-ranging service, training, and research activities to develop innovations and improve health among the world’s poor. 

Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluative Sciences Research

The CEESR Division draws upon the experience of many experts, from qualitative and quantitative research methodology to clinical epidemiology to health education.

Emergency Medicine

The Division of Emergency Medicine provides state-of-the-art emergency care to all patients and teaches residents how to provide that care.

Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is dedicated to providing quality care to patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders, conducting promising research applying the latest scientific and medical advances for the prevention, detection and treatment of patients with endocrine diseases and, and also in the training of highly motivated and dedicated physicians. 

Gastroenterology & Hepatology

The Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology has a wide range of active basic science, translational research, clinical research studies and clinical trials research focused on gastrointestinal and hepatic conditions and disorders. The Division is also home to the world class, multidisciplinary Center for the Study of Hepatitis C

General Internal Medicine (WCIMA)

The WCIMA services include preventive health care, treatment of acute and chronic illness and the coordination of care for a diverse population of adult patients those with complex diseases and chronic illnesses.

Geriatric and Palliative Medicine

The mission of the Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine is to improve the quality of life for older people through high quality clinical care, teaching, training and scientific research.

Hematology/Medical Oncology

The Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology offers comprehensive care in diagnosing and treating patients with cancer and non-malignant blood disorders. The research studies of the Division focuses on testing new therapies in patients with cancer and blood diseases and to understand the molecular basis of human blood diseases and cancer.

Immunology

The Division of Immunology is focused on engaging in both basic and clinical research aimed to translate decades of the advances in the field aimed at discovering new therapies and treatments for immunological disorders. The Division faculty are committed to providing the best education and training to students as well as exposure to cutting-edge research.

Infectious Diseases

The Division of Infectious Diseases designs and conducts cutting-edge research, provides outstanding clinical care, and its internationally recognized physician-scientists provide the highest quality education and training in infectious diseases.

Medical Ethics

The Division of Medical Ethics investigates topics in the ethical practice of medicine and works to elucidate and clarify the aspects of research studies that make them ethical. The faculty engage in research initiatives that explore a wide range of topics both in the practice of medicine and in medical research and shares their knowledge with physicians, students and researchers to fulfill a standard of ethical care.

Nephrology & Hypertension

The Division of Nephrology & Hypertension is a leader in translational research initiatives that help better understand diseases affecting the kidney and renal systems, and alternative non-invasive ways to detect allograft dysfunction. The division is home to the nationally recognized Hypertension Center devoted exclusively to patients with disorders of blood pressure and circulation.

Public Health Programs

The Division of Public Health is involved in a variety of ongoing basic science and clinical research projects involving epidemiology, substance abuse, PTSD treatment, suicide prevention, HCV treatment in drug users, and understanding immunity in opioid users. The division is home to several centers of excellence that encompass a wide range of expertise in research and patient care.

Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care conducts research focused on understanding the genetic basis of human disease, understanding the function of the human genome, and modulating the genetic repertoire to treat human disorders, including gene therapy. The divisions overarching mission encompasses activities in clinical care, research in genetic medicine, and education.

Rheumatology

The Division of Rheumatology is widely recognized for its contributions to research defining the underlying mechanisms of autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions and is comprised of internationally recognized clinically-based rheumatologists and physician-scientists who carry out cutting edge basic, translational and clinical investigational research.
