Mobile Research Studies: The What, Why, and How

ResearchKit (Apple) and ResearchStack (Android) are open source frameworks for researchers to inform and consent patients, and to collect personal health data from participants in trials. ResearchKit/ResearchStack have out-of-the box functionality for patient consent, surveys for patient reported outcomes and collecting health data from sensors in the phone or devices connected to the phone. This presentation will cover what are ResearchKit and ResearchStack, why they matter both for institutional review board (IRB) backed research and to mobile app developers and users everywhere, and how researchers can build their own prototype study without any special knowledge of programming. Speakers: Michael Carroll VP of Engineering, RubiconMD Technologist in Residence, Cornell Tech NYC Deborah Estrin, Ph.D. Professor of Computer Science, Cornell Tech NYC Professor of Public Health, Weill Cornell Medical College Co-Founder, Open mHealth Neil Lakin, M.Eng.
