Program Description:

VentureWell Course & Program Grants of up to $30,000 are awarded to faculty or staff at US higher education institutions to support curriculum that engages students in science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship.

Course & Program Grants may be used to strengthen existing curricular programs or to build new, inclusive courses and programs that engage student teams in developing and pursuing scalable solutions to real world needs through science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship.

Activities supported by Course and Program Grants should lead to effective courses and programs that are sustained by the institution, lead to the formation of student teams (ideally involved with the VentureWell ETeam Program), and expand opportunities for learning across science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship at the parent institution. Course or program focus may include one of the following areas

  • General (science- and technology-based) entrepreneurship
  • Sustainable technologies (new materials, clean tech, green energy and chemistry innovation) Climate change solutions (technology to mitigate and/or adapt to climate change), especially technologies that support communities most impacted by climate change
  • Biomedical and healthcare innovation
  • Technologies that address poverty alleviation and basic human needs

Application Requirements

Cornell is limited to submitting 2 nominees. Due to this limitation an internal selection process will be coordinated. Chairpersons/Division Heads may submit no more than two nominations from their department/division. Note: Chairs/Division Heads submitting more than one nomination must comment on the relative strengths and weaknesses of the two nominees. The same comment should be repeated in both nomination letters. Margins should be at least one inch and font size not less than 12 pt.

1. Letter of nomination by the Department Chair of Division Chief that evaluate the promise of the applicant and the invention, and that describes the strength of the institution’s commitment to the applicant’s invention activities.

2. A project narrative (maximum 6 pages, using 12-point Times font and 1-inch margins), which addresses the following (as outlined in the grant guidelines):

  • context;
  • proposed initiative;
  • team and partners;
  • entrepreneurial ecosystem;
  •  work plan table; and
  • project outcomes

3. Biosketch (2-page limit)

4. A proposed budget for all years, including justifications that outlines how grant funds will be used.
