The 2018 U.S. Advancing Science through Pfizer: Investigator Research Exchange (ASPIRE) Hemophilia Research Awards Program is a competitive grants program that reflects the commitment of Pfizer Hemophilia to support ongoing basic science and clinical investigation in hemophilia A and B.
Ongoing basic science research and clinical research are critical to deepen understanding of disease mechanisms and to ensure advancement of management strategies for hemophilia A and hemophilia B and their related comorbidities. In an era of increased competition for research funding, the 2018 U.S. ASPIRE Hemophilia Research Awards Program is designed to support laboratory and clinical research in pathogenesis, complications, management, and clinical outcomes of hemophilia A and B.
Mission
- To advance basic science, translational and clinical research through a competitive grants program that increases medical knowledge in the pathogenesis, complications, management, and clinical outcomes of hemophilia A and B.
- To support academic research as well as the career development of promising young and established scientists.
Areas of Research Focus
Pfizer will consider proposals for research projects which address one of the following areas in hemophilia A and/or hemophilia B. Applications comprising laboratory investigation or clinical research will be considered.
- Clinical outcomes in non-severe hemophilia
- Functional improvement/pain alleviation using on-demand standard half-life factor replacement products*
- Impact of physical activity/exercise including coordination of preventative factor regimens using standard half-life products*
- Biology of tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI)/TFPI blockade
- AAV-based gene therapy for hemophilia, especially regarding neutralizing antibodies to AAV vectors and immune response following treatment
*moroctocog alfa and/or nonacog alfa
Application and Selection Process
The 2018 U.S. ASPIRE Program is open to U.S. investigators. Review of grant proposals will be performed by an independent, external panel of experts. Project duration should be1 or 2 years and the annual approximate award should not exceed a maximum of $50,000–$70,000/year, inclusive of overhead costs (capped at 28%).
