The American Epilepsy Society (AES) Predoctoral Research Fellowships support predoctoral students who are pursuing dissertation research with an epilepsy-relevant theme, and who are working under the guidance of a mentor with expertise in epilepsy research. Proposals are welcomed across the spectrum of basic, translational, and clinical research.
The AES Predoctoral Research Fellowship offers:
- 1 year of support
- $29,000 stipend support
- $1,000 travel support to the AES Annual Meeting
- one-year AES membership
Next anticipated deadline in January 2025.
Eligibility
- PhD Student, in field relevant to epilepsy research
- Have a qualified mentor(s) with expertise on the specific aspects of epilepsy related research targeted in the proposal
- NO citizenship requirements. All research must take place in the United States
Application Requirements
Application are submitted through ProposalCentral.
Applications include:
- Title (75 characters)
- 1 or 2 letters of reference
- General Lay Abstract (1500 characters including spaces)
- Scientific Abstract (1500 characters including spaces)
- Applicant Biosketch
- Mentor Biosketch
- Only if applicable. Co-mentor Biosketch
- Research plan (6 pages)
- Applicant Statement and Training Goals (2 pages)
- Other support (template document describing primary mentor’s research support for last 3 years)
- Facilities Available (template document, no page limit)
- Proposal Development. (template document, no page limit)
- Letter of support from project mentor
- Optional. letters of support from collaborators or consultants
- Only if applicable. Documentation for use of vertebrate animals or human subjects
- Optional. Supplementary Training Award application (1 page)

- Please contact the Office of Fellowships and Scientific Writing (OFSW) in the Graduates School to inform the grants administrator of your intent to submit an application
- Applications must be routed to the OFSW via Weill Research Gateway (WRG) 7 business days before the sponsor deadline for Pre-Review and 2 business days before the sponsor deadline for final review
