Envigo

ENVIGO Removed from the Approved Vendor List

As of 12/1/2022, Envigo will no longer be an approved animal vendor for MSK and WCM.  The MSK and WCM IACUCs made this decision in light of the mandated closure of Envigo’s Cumberland VA canine breeding facility due to significant documented failures of providing adequate husbandry and veterinary care. These failures and subsequent actions, which have been broadly covered by national and local news media, cast an unfavorable light on the use of animals in research and may lead to additional restrictive regulatory action with respect to the use of animals in research. In view of these concerns, both MSK’s and WCM’s IACUC decided to not continue to do business with Envigo when purchasing rodent/rabbit models as well as specialized diets.

For Animal Orders:

Alternatives for common mouse strains can be found on the Envigo Replacement Mouse Strains document.  Investigators utilizing animals that can only be obtained from Envigo will need to request an exemption with a scientific justification to either the MSK or WCM IACUC that the respective IACUC would review and either approve or disapprove.

For Special Feed Orders:

Both IACUCs also strongly encourage investigators who obtain specialized diets from Envigo to consider an alternative vendor.  Alternatives for Tamoxifen and Doxycycline can be found on the Envigo Replacement of Diets document.  Contact the biosecurity veterinarian if you would like to use an alternative vendor or require additional information.
