About the Radiation Safety Committee
The Weill Cornell Medicine Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) authorizes and oversees the possession, use, and disposal of all radioactive material used for research, clinical, instructional, and service purposes within Weill Cornell Medicine - NewYork Presbyterian Hospital Center.
The RSC has overall responsibility for the development and recommendation of comprehensive polices and guidelines for the safe use of all sources of radiation, including all clinical and research uses of radioactive materials and all ionizing and non-ionizing radiation-generating devices. As such, the RSC is charged to provide general review and audit of radiation safety programs at WCM-NYP to determine compliance with regulations and licenses issued on the local, state and federal levels.
The Medical Health Physics (MHP) department assures the safe use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation through training, consultation and surveillance consistent with regulatory requirements.
