Number of Applications: 2 applications from WCM (not including Ithaca)

Program Description:

The Charles H. Revson Foundation aims to support NYC’s most promising post-doctoral researchers in biomedical science. This two- year fellowship program is designed to meet two pressing concerns: the need for additional sources of support for the third and fourth years of post-doctoral work, and the improvement and strengthening of science and scientific research in New York City.

Each candidate must apply for the fellowship under the guidance of a Sponsor – a scientist (tenured, tenure-track, or equivalent position) capable of providing mentorship to the Fellow. The Sponsor should be actively engaged in the planning, execution, and supervision of the proposed research and should encourage the Fellow to report the results of the research in scientific journals and meetings.

Fellows may be engaged in experimental basic research in any area of biomedical science. Up to eight fellowships will be awarded each year, determined by the quality of applications as judged by a panel of expert reviewers.

Only candidates who have already spent two years engaged in postdoctoral research at one of the participating NYC universities, hospitals, or research institutions (listed below) are eligible. Candidates must be continuing at the institution where they have already been conducting research for two years.

*Please note that upon accepting the award, the Fellow agrees to not take part in any other fellowship program during the course of the Charles H. Revson Senior Fellowship in Biomedical Science.

Review Criteria (not explicitly stated; information below is based on program description)

  • Soundness of proposed methodology and research design
  • Novelty of proposed research
  • Impact of the proposed research to the field
  • Investigator’s track record, including relevance of his/her own background and previous work (as well as the background and previous work of the sponsor)

See the Foundation website for details.

WCM is limited to submitting 2 nominees. Due to this limitation an internal selection process will be coordinated. Chairpersons/Institute Directors/Division Heads may submit no more than two nominations from their department/division.

Note: Chairs/Division Heads submitting more than one nomination must comment on the relative strengths and weaknesses of the two nominees. Send the candidates' comparison summary by email to researchdean@med.cornell.edu by the internal deadline indicated above.

Internal proposals must include the following:

Research proposal format: 1.5 spaced in 12-point type.

  1. Letter of nomination co-signed by the Department Chair/Division Head and candidate's Mentor detailing why the candidate should be considered (1-2 pages);
